LOCAL MEMORY
The memory behind the Athlone song
Athlone stands near the centre of Ireland, with the Shannon flowing through its story. It has always felt like a place of crossing: bridge, river, road, military memory, students, trade, travellers and families. A song for Athlone should have water at its centre, because the river gives the town both movement and identity. It should feel open, steady and slightly reflective.
In Ireland in Song, Athlone can be a song of meeting points. East and west, old and new, students and locals, river and street, memory and modern life all come together here. The song should carry the feeling of a town where Ireland passes through, but also where many people stop, live, study, pray, work and belong.
