LOCAL MEMORY
The memory behind the Naas song
Naas is a town of roads, markets, movement and growing life close to Dublin, yet with its own County Kildare identity. It carries the feeling of an old town adapting to modern pressure: commuters, shops, schools, estates, traffic, family life and local memory all layered together. A song for Naas should not pretend it is only historic or only modern; it should hold both.
In Ireland in Song, Naas is a song about change and rootedness. It is a place where the pace of contemporary Ireland is very visible, but older town life still remains underneath: streets, racecourse memory, local names, church bells, market rhythms and people trying to keep a sense of place as the town grows.
