LOCAL MEMORY
The memory behind the Portlaoise song
Portlaoise is the heart of County Laois and a natural home for Ireland in Song. It is a town of roads, railway, old names, changing streets and Midlands life. It has the feeling of movement: people passing through, people arriving, people building homes and families, and local memory quietly living beneath the practical surface of daily town life.
In Ireland in Song, Portlaoise should be presented with warmth and dignity. It is not only a transport point or administrative centre; it is a lived place with schools, shops, streets, estates, church life, family stories, local work and a strong central place in Laois. Its song can be hopeful, grounded and honest — a musical portrait of the town where the project has one of its deepest roots.
